“If there’s one thing i’ve learned it’s patience. I see many younger, very talented illustrators that are so frustrated that their careers haven’t taken off yet.”

“I just want to shake them and say, you need to be patient. There are outliers that for some reason are immediately successful, but for the vast majority of us, it’s going to take time to find success.”

“When I was in college, I had a professor say that it takes 8 years to be a successful illustrator, and I found that estimate to be remarkably (and depressingly) accurate. I think we want things immediately because we can get instant gratification from computers in our pockets. We are so impatient as people nowadays, I worry we don’t have the capacity to wait for anything.”

“This job, any creative job for that matter, takes a certain amount of commitment. You will have to make a bunch of work and throw it all away before you can make something that’s authentically you.”
